Cheadle Hulme High School, the founding school of The Laurus Trust, has once again been rated Outstanding in all areas by Ofsted following a full inspection in May 2025 – its first in over a decade.
The report recognises the school’s unashamedly academic ethos, exceptional student outcomes, and unwavering commitment to aspiration, inclusion, and personal development.
Students “thrive in this inclusive school” where “a rigorous academic education propels their learning way beyond the classroom.” Inspectors found that “students, including those who are disadvantaged, achieve exceptionally well,” and described behaviour and attitudes as “excellent,” with students wholeheartedly committed to their studies.
The report is full of highlights, including:
- “High aspiration underpins the rich curriculum.”
- “The curriculum is rich and ambitious, expertly delivered by staff.”
- “Students’ learning builds securely over time. They develop a rich understanding in the subjects that they study.”
- “Students with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are expertly supported to excel.”
- “Reading is front and centre and skilfully woven through each subject.”
- “A love of reading is firmly embedded. Students view reading as both a conduit for knowledge and a pathway to pleasure.”
- “Students are respectful and polite.”
- “Students embrace a range of leadership opportunities such as house captain and form representative.”
- “Individuality is highly celebrated.”
- “The school equips sixth form students exceedingly well for life in modern Britain.”
- “Students are proficient in life skills such as how to arrange a mortgage or pay taxes.”
- “The vibrant ‘super curriculum’ with diverse speakers, trips and visits inspires students.”
- “Across the school, at all levels, leadership is a strength.”
- “Although standards are exceptionally high, there is no complacency.”
- “Teachers engage enthusiastically in a wide range of professional development opportunities and model positive learning habits.”
