Former Manchester United Assistant Manager, Mike Phelan, visited Cheadle Hulme Sixth Form this week, to deliver a football masterclass session to Sixth Form students and a seminar on the range of career routes available to them across the industry.

Working with Davies Sports, Mike delivered a range of football-based activities, using modern technologies to track player performance levels and app-based coaching aids, to monitor speed, technique and accuracy. Students also took part in theoretical analysis sessions, to learn about positioning and were provided with career insights by Mike and the team, about the range of jobs available across the industry, to help them with their future choices.

Several Elite Pathway students were in attendance and were able to gain valuable advice from Mike on how to deal with the demands of elite level sport (two Elite Pathway students are pictured below, alongside Mike Phelan).

Mike spent many years working under Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, coaching the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney. He was part of management teams who went on to win multiple Premier League titles, domestic cups and the Champions League. He has also had spells managing at Norwich City along with Hull City, before returning to Manchester United under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in most recent years. Mike now works with Davies Sports to provide educational sessions to schools across the country, to inspire future athletes and highlight the career opportunities available in elite level sport.
