We are delighted to share that Linda Magrath OBE, former Head of Cheadle Hulme High School and CEO of the Laurus Trust, has been named a Silver Winner in the Lifetime Achievement category of the prestigious Pearson National Teaching Awards 2026.

This national recognition celebrates Linda’s exceptional contribution to education over more than 40 years – and the lasting difference she has made to the lives of young people, staff and communities across Stockport and beyond.
From her early career in teaching through to her leadership today, Linda has remained firmly committed to one core belief: that every young person, regardless of background or circumstance, deserves the highest quality education and the opportunity to succeed.
A legacy of transformation and opportunity
Many in our community will know that Linda’s journey with the Laurus Trust began at Cheadle Hulme High School in 2004 at a time when our school faced significant challenges. Through her relentless focus on culture, relationships and high expectations, Linda led CHHS’s transformation into the thriving, oversubscribed school it is today.
That same vision and determination became the foundation of the Laurus Trust, which Linda established in 2012. Since then, the Trust has grown into a collaborative family of schools – now thirteen strong – united by a shared commitment to excellence, aspiration and opportunity for all.

At the heart of all this is Linda’s unwavering belief in people – both students and staff – and her determination to remove barriers to success.
Whatever it takes
Anyone who has worked with Linda will recognise her guiding principle: “whatever it takes.”
This is not just a phrase – it’s a mindset that has shaped countless decisions, large and small. Whether supporting an individual student, launching a new school, or responding to complex challenges, Linda’s instinct has always been to ask: “How can we make this work?”
It is this combination of ambition, compassion, and practical problem-solving that has defined her leadership and inspires those around her.
A moment of collective pride
This award is a fitting recognition of Linda’s remarkable career and her lasting impact on education. It is also a moment of pride for the entire Laurus Trust community who have been part of this journey.
As Linda approaches her retirement at the end of this academic year, this recognition feels especially meaningful. It reflects not only what has been achieved, but the enduring legacy she leaves behind: strong schools, empowered people and brighter futures for thousands of young people.
