What is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as: protecting children from maltreatment; preventing impairment of children’s mental health or development; ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and acting to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

Within the Laurus Trust, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Our approach is child-centred and we consider, at all times, what is in the best interest of the child.

Getting Support

If you need any support for your child or family circumstances please contact your child’s Head of Year in the first instance.

Key Safeguarding Contacts

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Miss A Ballard, Deputy Head of School.
  • Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL): Mrs E Geddis, Trust Senior Head of Year

If you have a concern regarding the welfare of a child who attends Cheadle Hulme High School, please ask to speak to a member of the safeguarding team on 0161 485 7201.

Operation Encompass

Operation Encompass is a police and education early information safeguarding partnership enabling schools to offer immediate support to children experiencing domestic abuse. Cheadle Hulme High School has been taking part in Operation Encompass in partnership with Manchester Safeguarding Board and Greater Manchester Police since 2019.

Operation Encompass has been designed to provide early reporting to school of any domestic abuse incidents that occur outside of school, but which might have an impact on a child attending school the following day. This information will be shared, by the police, on school days during the school term. When incidents occur on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, the police will contact the relevant school the following Monday.

We always endeavour to offer the best support possible to our students, and their families, and believe that Operation Encompass is beneficial and supportive for all concerned.

Please read the following document for more information: Operation Encompass Letter
